Farm Management place at your disposal the functions required to capture all the elements applicable to an enterprise (section). At this stage it accommodates cattle and sheep, maize, wheat, sunflower, sorghum, groundnuts and ‘other crops’.

Currently everything has to be entered by hand. As the system develops we will automate where possible and add enterprises you want. We want to ensure that all farmers are at ease with the working of the system and its reports before we do major changes.

To make full use of the reports it is extremely important that the information be entered daily. The total value of an entry must balance with the amount of the cheque, deposit, Co-operation – or other suppliers’ invoices. This way the system ensures that the correct quantity has been entered and the financial data is updated in one entry. Milk production, Weight, Dosage detail plus vehicle repairs and depreciation are included.

Effective farm management actions are similar to the management processes used at any type of business. Farming has a few enterprises (sections), each with its unique qualities. What set Farm Management apart from other money making ventures is the kind of daily duties involved. Therefore it is essential that there should be structures in place whereby an enterprise can be measured effectively. This measuring method must show divergences clearly and also disclose possible losses early. Farm Management contains it all.

Today each phases of life overwhelmed us with so many ‘do’s and don’ts’ that we are confused most of the time. The solution is to decide which 4 to 5 actions is critical important to that section and by executing them on a regular basis, it will cover 90% of the ‘can go wrongs’. These actions we call the ‘basics’.

Take Vehicles as an example? There ‘basics’ are:
  1. Fill with petrol / diesel;
  2. Check the tyre pressure;
  3. Check the oil level;
  4. Check the water level; and
  5. Wash it.

They will not prevent you from a puncture, but it will ensure that the spare wheel is correct, the jack and wheel spanner are available. In a business like farming, each of these ‘basics’ has its own R.c cost. The cost of Petrol or Diesel depends on the quantity of liters used and the price per liter. The consumption of the applicable vehicle also plays a part. We include all the ‘basics’ in FarmManagement’s Reports.

We understand that there are many Farmers who are nervous about accounting. You can relax. The accounting ‘basics’ have been setup.
